This Philo Trip will explore the rich history of Sigmund Freud in Vienna. On this trip we will explore the origins of psychoanalysis through Freud’s life in Vienna and his relationships with other analysts, including Carl Jung, Alfred Adler, Karl Abraham, Otto Rank, Ernst Jones, and Anna Freud. Our explorations will start with the historic and philosophical context of the rise of psychoanalysis and will follow Freud’s development of psychoanalytic theory from his early work on hysteria, dreams and sexuality to his later work on group dynamics, civilized morality and aggression. The trip will also investigate the origins of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society and the International Psychoanalytic Association. We will visit Freud’s house, now a museum, on Berggasse 19; Vienna University where he studied medicine; the Physiological Institute; the Schloss Bellevue where the secret of dreams was revealed to him; Rathausstrasse 7 where he started his practice; and all other relevant places in Vienna and its vicinity where he was active. We will meet with local psychoanalysts and hear their talks, as we explore the city with a tour guide and visit some of the cultural landmarks of the city such as the Vienna Opera and the museums

Day 1 Saturday, May 16, 2020 Departure
Overnight flight to Vienna, Austria. Airline tickets are not included. Celestial Voyagers may shop around for you and advise the best schedule and value for your airline ticket.
Day 2 Sunday, May 17, 2020 Vienna (D)
Assistance on arrival and transfer to HOTEL RAINERS. Check-in for 7 nights. Should your flight arrives at a different schedule than the main group. We can arrange your transfer but it will not be included.
Welcome dinner at the hotel to meet your travel companions and your tour escort.
Day 3 Monday, May 18, 2020 Vienna (B)
Full day guided tour of Vienna with local guide.
Morning visit of the Sigmund Freud Museum.
Free time for lunch followed by The Sigmund Freud walking tour of Vienna.
Day 4 Tuesday,May 19, 2020 Vienna (B)
Morning guided tour including the Kunsthistorische Museum and Schonbrunn Palace where you can stay to enjoy the gardens.
Afternoon at leisure. During leisure time, your tour director will help you plan your visits or accompany you through Vienna.
Day 5 Wednesday, May 20, 2020 Vienna (B)
Morning lecture by your host Dr. Jared Russell, Phd. and Psychoanalyst who is accompanying the group.
Free afternoon.
Optional musical event in the evening: Opera or classical music.
Day 6 Thursday May 21, 2020 Vienna (B & D)
Morning at leisure.
Afternoon lecture combined with the visit of other Viennese sites: Hundertwasser’s House and Museum.
Evening promenade in one of the wineyard villages outside Vienna. Panoramic view over the city.
Dinner with music, Viennese cuisine and local wine.
Day 7 Friday, May 22, 2020 Vienna (B)
Guest lecture in the morning followed with a visit to the Belvedere Palace which houses the word largest collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt: combi tickets to enter upper an lower Belvedere, Orangerie, Palace Stables,and garden.
Optional tickets for the Opera in the evening.
Day 8 Saturday May 23, 2020 Vienna B & D
Day at leisure in Vienna. Plan you free time with your tour director.
Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
Coach transfers are included.
Day 9 Sunday, May 24, 2020 Return (B)
Transfer to Vienna airport for main group traveling together.
Other transfers for a different schedule are not included.
